I’d tried binding the edges with fabric instead of doing the stitching on the shoulder pieces, which I’d have to do by hand through the leather two layers of cotton duck. It was made specifically to be used to replace a brake strap on the Model T’s that always broke. We’ve had it for about 10 years – picked it up at a thrift store because it looked nifty and found out later it was an antique, about 100 years old. I used my rivet setter for the first time making this. Managed to get the harness down pretty well, I think: Now that I’ve figured it out, I may remake them in leather for future wearings. Since I’d never tried making anything like the greaves before I used pleather.
The harness is made from buffalo hide, which is a bit redder than the leather from the game images from the game, but I loved the texture of it. Finally kicked myself in the butt and started working. It took so long because I was worried about messing it up, so I never started making them. The only thing I had left to finish was the harness and greaves. It got shelved for ages and ages, but I decided I was going to have it ready to wear for this year’s Norwescon, and I got it done with a few days to spare!
